BURLINGTON, N.C. – Police have charged a teen driver who crashed into the U.S. Post Office building on Maple Avenue Saturday night.

Police said that George Desimone, 17, was inhaling an intoxicating substance when he crashed his 1996 Mercedes into the post office, causing $50,000 worth of damage.

Desimone was released to his parents with a written promise to appear in court, said police.

The post office will temporarily close until repairs can be made.
