Winston-Salem woman, 25, dies in single-vehicle wreck in Charlotte

A 25-year-old Winston-Salem woman has died after her car went off the road and hit a tree in Charlotte, according to officials. (WSOC)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 25-year-old Winston-Salem woman has died after her car went off the road and hit a tree in Charlotte, according to officials.

WSOC reported that the victim has been identified as Shameka Nicole McCormick. Officials said the crash happened at about 7 a.m. Saturday.

No one reportedly witnessed the wreck, but a supervisor with the police department said the car went in the front yard of a house.

The victim was found in the car and was the only person inside, according to police. Police said she was not wearing a seat belt.

Authorities said alcohol is suspected to be a factor. Police said there were alcohol bottles in the car.
