School officials: East Surry High School student injured in crash has died

PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C. — The East Surry High School student who was critically injured in a single-vehicle accident  over the weekend has died according to school officials.

Christian Gage Edwards, 17, of Pinnacle, over corrected and hit two trees on Old Winston Road around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Edwards was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be cut out by the rescue squad. He was later airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Edwards was an athlete at East Surry High School.
