CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte Fire Department held a barbecue Saturday to help support one of their own, who has been diagnosed with cancer.

WSOC reported that Jeff McGill was diagnosed with stomach cancer in August. His fellow firefighters came together Saturday to hold a benefit for him and his family.

Capt. Dennis Gist said it’s important for them to support someone who has done so much for the community.

“He’s used to doing things for people in the community, so we wanted to do our part as firefighters and show our support for him,” said Capt. Dennis Gist, referring to the 15-year veteran with the department.
