Winston-Salem’s 5 best hot dog joints (and one was just featured on TV)

Some favorites, according to the Winston-Salem Journal:

1.  Skippy’s Hot Dogs, 624 W. Fourth St.: The key to these dogs is the pretzel buns, which Skippy’s was serving before it became trendy. The hot dogs are also good, and Skippy’s also gives vegetarians an option.

Don’t forget to try the French fries, which are my favorite in the area since the Bel-Air Drive-In Theater in Walkertown shut down.

2. J.S. Pulliam’s Barbecue, 4358 Old Walkertown Road: The toasted and buttered buns, and the flavorful slaw, make this one a personal favorite.

Pulliam’s specializes in these dogs and barbecue sandwiches, which are unlike any you’ll find at other restaurants in the area, and makes their own hot sauce.

3. PB’s Takeout, 1412 S. Hawthorne Road: Another dog place with great toasted buns, this one also has exceptionally good chili to top your dog with.

Back in 2005, Scott described it as “a little step back in time,” and 10 years later, that’s still the case. They also have excellent Buffalo wings (be sure to get the dressing, because if you’re ordering buffalo wings in the first place, why the heck not?). The wings take awhile to fix; you can order them to go and get a hot dog to chow down while you’re waiting.
