BESSEMER CITY, N.C. — A driver narrowly escaped disaster at a railroad crossing on Thursday.

According to WSOC, Dewau Gist had just left her house and started across tracks on Ramsuer Road.

A truck in front of her stopped, forcing her to stop on the tracks.

Gist heared the train-crossing rail go down behind her and thought the truck would pull forward, but it didn’t.

When she heard the train bearing down on her vehicle, she momentarily froze, then exited the vehicle.

An officer who saw video of the crash from the engineer’s point of view said it was so close that he couldn’t tell she got out in time.

The train collided with Gist’s car, pushing it about 30 feet.
