GREENVILLE, S.C. — A 4-year-old boy is being called a hero after he woke his family up during a house fire Sunday morning.

Firefighters battled the blaze on Bennett Street for more than two hours before it was extinguished.

Pamela Wright’s 4-year-old son was the first to notice the fire and started screaming, “Mommy, mommy, mommy, the house is on fire!”

“If it wasn’t for my little boy, then we would all probably be dead,” Wright told WHNS. “He is just my little hero and my angel.”

The house did not have smoke detectors. Wright said she and her husband discovered part of the house near the kitchen and washroom in flames after being alerted by their son.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
