Boy hit by car, killed in NC suburb; family friend tried to save him

STALLINGS, N.C. — A 13-year-old North Carolina boy playing in a front yard was killed after he ended up in the road and was hit by a car.

WSOC reported that it happened in the Charlotte suburb of Stallings at about 7:30 p.m. Friday after the boy started to play near the road.

The victim had been playing with friends. Family friend Kristin Young tried to administer CPR on Chance Johnson after he was hit, according to officials.

Police said the boy was taken to a hospital in Matthews where he died shortly later.

The driver of the car will not face charges. A candlelight vigil had been planned for the young victim.
