MOUNT AIRY, N.C. -- Multiple fire departments are on the scene of a 3-alarm fire that broke out at a lumber business  Friday morning.

A person driving by reported the fire early in the morning at the Mountain Lumber and Pallet Company, located at 3583 W. Pine St.

One building was destroyed.

The Pine Ridge Fire Department said the fire is under control.  Crews said this is a difficult fire to fight because of icy conditions and the buildings are full of wooden pallets.

There are no reported injuries at this time.

The water from fire crews is freezing over on the road and Highway 89 is temporarily shut down at this time.

People going to North Surry High School are asked to use caution and avoid the area if possible.

Crews said they will call NCDOT to work on the ice after the fire is put out.
