WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A Winston-Salem man was charged with a DWI and hit and run after hitting a school bus Monday.

Harvey Frye III, 39,  was driving south on Thomasville Road and turned right on Louise Road. Police said he swung out too far on the turn and collided with a school bus.

Frye fled the scene on foot but was located a short time later, according to police.

Twelve children were on the bus at the time of the crash but none were injured.

Alcohol played a part in the accident.

Frye is in the Forsyth County Detention Center under a $2,000 bond.

His court date is set for Jan. 7, 2015.
