BURLINGTON, N.C. -- City Council members voted unanimously Tuesday to rezone 60 acres of residential land to commercial industrial to help expand the Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport.
Officials say the growth will include a second terminal, a parking garage and two extra hangars.

The second terminal will be three times as large as the current one.

About 150-200 airplanes fly in and out of the airport every day.

Executive Director Dan Danieley says they often have overcrowding on the tarmac and in the terminal.

Construction on the expansion will begin in 2020.
