Couple gets married in ‘mermaid’ wedding in NC

CARY, N.C. – “Mermaids” are gathering in North Carolina for an annual convention and one couple even got married.

The News & Observer reported that 52-year-old Cookie Ramirez and Ralph DeJesus, 65, tied the knot inside a pool at the Embassy Suites hotel in Cary on Saturday night.

The couple was married during the annual N.C. Merfest convention, a mermaid event taking place in Cary this weekend.

“This is her dream to be a mermaid,” DeJesus said. “We saw the opportunity to have the first mermaid wedding.”
