Update: Single-car crash caused five-vehicle pile up on I-73/74 in Asheboro

ASHEBORO, N.C. — A single-car crash caused a five-vehicle pile up in the northbound lanes of I-73/74 early Monday morning.

The first wreck was a single-car crash that happened just after 6:30 a.m. The driver lost control of the vehicle just north of Presnell Street. The driver was charged with speeding.

Three vehicles were involved in the second wreck that happened just before 7 a.m.

A white car and a Jeep  stopped in the right lane of I-73/74 because of the first crash. The driver of a red Mistubishi Eclipse traveling north plowed into the Jeep causing it to crash into the white car.

The driver of the red Mistubishi Eclipse was charged with failure to reduce speed and the driver of the white car was charge with driving without a license.

The third accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car was caused by the second accident.

The tractor-trailer sideswiped the car trying to break because of the traffic back up.

Two people were taken to Randolph Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The scene is now clear.
