ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A North Carolina man accused of killing his mother and stepfather has committed suicide in jail, according to authorities.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that jailers were unable to revive Vincent Thomas Wesley Franklin, 26, of Leicester, after finding him in his jail cell early Sunday morning.

The suspect had been at the Buncombe County Detention Facility in Asheville after being arrested late last year in the shooting deaths of his mother and stepfather.

The bodies of the victims, 45-year-old Joy Runne and 44-year-old Andre Runne, were discovered by a family member in November, 2013 at their home in Leicester.

Franklin had also been a suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, 23-year-old Cheyenne Nichole VanTreese. Her body was found in the woods near the Runne home a day after the Runne couple was found dead.

Exact details about how the suspect killed himself were not provided. The investigation is ongoing.
