‘Harry Potter’ actor dies on Christmas after 50-year acting career

David Ryall, the actor who played Elphias Doge in the “Harry Potter” movies, died at age 79 on Christmas day.

Variety.com reported that the veteran British actor had a career spanning more than 50 years.

Ryall began playing the Elphias Doge wizard character in 2010 in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.”

But he has also appeared in movies including 2008’s “City of Ember,” 2004’s “Around the World in 80 Days” and 1980’s “The Elephant Man.”

Actor Mark Gatiss tweeted about the beloved performer on Saturday, describing him as a “twinkling, brilliant, wonderful actor.”

Ryall’s daughter, Charlie Ryall, also tweeted about him, reminding people of his five-decade spanning career.
