Man in Winston-Salem shot in the buttocks on Christmas morning

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man was sent to the hospital Christmas morning after he was shot in the buttocks on 15th Street, authorities said.

Jerry Gamble, 46, was treated for the non-life-threatening injury at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, according to Winston-Salem police.

Police responded to a reported shooting near 1017 E. 15th St. at about 11:19 a.m. They found Gamble with a gunshot wound.

Gamble told police that he was walking on 15th Street when he encountered a man who asked him if he had seen his glasses. Gamble said when he replied “no,” the man pulled a handgun from his coat pocket and fired at him as he attempted to run.

Gamble last saw the shooter walking toward Liberty Street, police said. The shooter was described as a black male about 20 years old, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, wearing a red and black jacket.
