REIDSVILLE, N.C. — A man  was found dead inside his home last night, from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, after setting his home on fire.

Police arrived on the scene off of U.S. 158  just after 10 p.m.

Annis David, 70, told police she and her husband, Johnie David, had been having problems lately and that Johnie was suffering from depression and PTSD from his prior military service.

She awoke last night to a fire alarm and the smell of Kerosene throughout the home. Annis then found that she was barricaded in her bedroom from the outside and was unable to get out.

After calling out to Johnie and pleading with him not to burn the house down, she managed to escape the home through her bedroom window and call 9-1-1 from a neighbor’s home.

When police arrived, they could smell a Kerosene and saw a rug on fire inside of the home. When no one would come to the door police forced entry into the home and took the burning rug outside, quickly putting out the fire.

Police found Johnie dead inside the home from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
