This holiday season, health professionals are recommending you choose carefully the company you keep.

"Try to avoid crowds," says Connie Weant, a nurse consultant for the Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services. "I know that's hard this time of the year but we have to remember if someone is sick don't be near them or if you are sick please stay home."

North Carolina is one of the 29 states reporting widespread flu.

Health professionals fear more flu cases are possible because the flu season doesn't slow down until the end of February.

Weant says it's never too late to get a flu shot. The Guilford County Department of Public Health has lots of vaccine. Just call the Health Department or your doctor for a flu shot.
