MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Twenty-one shotguns and rifles were stolen from a McDowell County Boy Scout camp earlier this week, according to WLOS.

The county sheriff’s office said they have suspects, who are known criminals from inside and outside of the county. Those suspects have not yet been contacted.

Marion resident David Bassett said until they’re actually off the streets, he’s living in fear for his 12-year-old son.

“Very much. It’s my little boy. He’s involved a lot in the community and so am I. So, it’s just strange somebody would do that. And, you know, when he’s not with me, I’m going to really worry,” Bassett said.

The rifles and shotguns went missing from storage facility at the Mecklenburg Scout Reservation on Vein Mountain Road sometime between Monday and Wednesday.

Detective James Manis with the county sheriff’s office said investigators are now in a race against time.
