GREENSBORO, N.C. — Long before doors opened Thanksgiving Day, shoppers stood outside stores at Friendly Shopping Center determined to snag a good deal.

Old Navy opened at 4 p.m., two hours before most retailers opened at 6.

With 50 percent off everything in the store, some shoppers with big families decided to get a jump start on their Christmas lists.

"Four kids equal a lot of money and at 50 percent off, I'm going to save a lot of money today," said shopper Christy Hinshaw.

Toys 'R' Us on High Point Road also opened its doors earlier this year at five and had a line wrapped around the building which still didn't discourage shoppers.

Johnathan Kimrey was first in line at the toy store for the second year in a row.

"The things we do for our kids, right,” he said.

Many of the stores will be open through Friday night.
