HIGH POINT, N.C. — The High Point City Council voted today to hire Gregory Demko as the city manager.

The selection comes following a nationwide search process that began in August.

Demko, who has more than 35 years of local government experience, is currently employed as the assistant city manager and director of finance for the City of Monroe.

Demko joined the City of Monroe in December 2009 and served as the interim city manager from July 2012 to August 2013.

Prior to working in Monroe, Demko worked in various capacities in local governments in Colorado.

“High Point conducted a very thorough recruitment process and I am honored to have been chosen as their next city manager,” Demko said. “I have been impressed by the optimism and vision of the leadership in High Point and I am looking forward to working with city council, city staff and the community to further what has already been accomplished and work to assure future community success.”

In Monroe, Demko was instrumental in developing a citywide beautification initiative; he led the city though various periods of transition while ensuring the city’s financial integrity. He also streamlined several financial service operations, including utilities and enterprise operations to better serve the public.

Demko begins his new position on Jan. 12. He will earn a salary of $170,000 annually.
