GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. – Guilford County Commissioners have turned down a request for financial help from a local business and that decision could cost jobs.

Kay Chemicals, which operates as EcoLab, was asking the commissioners to approve $163,000 in incentives to help it expand and hire an additional 45 people.

Representatives of the chemical firm told them if the incentives didn’t pass it was possible that over 200 jobs would be transferred from the Greensboro facility to St. Paul, Minnesota.

After they heard the pros and cons of the proposal, the vote on the incentives failed on a 4-to-4 tie.
