EAST EARL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A teenager assaulted a pair of officers while being arrested late Friday night.

William E. Clayton, 18, punched and kicked East Earl Police Officer Courtenay DeLaney and her partner, Officer Michael Lutz, while apparently in a drug-fueled rage.

DeLaney was hospitalized, according to Lancaster Online.

Clayton was able to shake off being shot with a Taser during the assault and yelled “America” and “Dropkick Murphys,” according to an arrest affidavit.

Clayton was charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police initially encountered Clayton while responding to a hit-and-run crash at a furniture store. His vehicle was seen trying to leave the scene of the crash and he later abandoned it.

Police are still investigating what drug Clayton may have been on. Lutz said the Taser “had no effect” on Clayton.

East Earl Police Chief Kevin McCarthy said DeLaney returned to work Monday without missing a shift.

Dropkick Murphys is a popular American punk rock band.
