Liberty man charged with raping a child

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — An elderly Liberty man faces rape charges and deputies say the allegations involving a child date back over a decade.

Alamance County Sheriff’s deputies arrested William Roger Overman of Way Road, Liberty, on Nov. 3.

The investigation stems from a report filed by the victim’s family about an incident which occurred in the southern part of the county.

The allegations date back to 2002 and continued for several years.

Overman is charged with felony first degree rape of a child, two felony counts of first degree statutory sex offense of a child and one felony count of indecent liberties with a child.

Deputies say there may be more victims and additional charges are pending.

Overman was placed in the Alamance County Jail under a $400,000 secured bond.

His first court appearance is Nov. 4.
