Surfers head to Wrightsville Beach to catch Hurricane Gonzalo
WILMINGTON, N.C. — A sign in downtown Wilmington turned heads Friday.
“Closed. The whole kitchen staff is surfing. Sorry. Go surf!” Happy Bowls in Wilmington closed up shop early and those passing by understood of the decision.
“I think this is a great idea, it’s five o’ clock — go surf,” said one potential patron.
According to WECT, dozens of surfers hit Wrightsville Beach to take advantage of the swells caused by Hurricane Gonzalo.
“These are at least three times bigger than a typical wave out here,” said one surfer.
The waves will reach between three and four feet on Saturday.
