NEW BERN, N.C. — Three people stole a vending machine from a Food Lion in New Bern on Sunday by dragging it from the grocery store. But officers found the suspects by following gouges on the road, according to WCTI.

According to police, the theft happened at 2:33 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the thieves tried to put a Coca-Cola vending machine into their SUV but it wouldn’t fit. The suspects resorted to dragging the machine behind their vehicle to Onslow County.

By following the gouges on the road, police located and arrested Guy Hawkins Jr., 40, and Christopher Baker, 32. Both appeared to be intoxicated at the time, investigators said.

Both are charged with felony larceny and possession of stolen property. They were each jailed under a $15,000 bond.

A third suspect has not been arrested.
