81-year-old man hit by train in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A pedestrian was hit by an Amtrak passenger train in downtown Greensboro Thursday morning.

Police responded to the scene at about 8:40 a.m. at South Elm Street and Smothers Place.

Officers say 81-year-old Lane Green was walking at the crossing when he was hit by the passenger train.

The man, who appears to be a transient, was conscious and alert when officials arrived. He was then transported to Moses Cone Hospital with minor injuries.

The accident is under investigation.

The intersection was closed for a short time but has since reopened.
