ASHEBORO, N.C. -- A man is in custody facing multiple charges of sexual exploitation of a child.

Dakota James Clontz, 18, of Asheboro, is charged with 18 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a child.

On Sept. 9, members of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at a residence in the 800 block of Fisher Circle.

A search of the home led to the seizure of numerous computers and various items of electronic media. Detectives located digital files containing known child pornography.

“The real monsters don’t look like the stuff we are going to see on Halloween, they are people walking all around us. It’s the things that they do, what they feel is in the privacy of their home and nobody’s seeing, and that’s the particularly scary part of this crime,” said Det. Bernie Maness, with Randolph County’s Internet Crimes against Children Task Force.

Clontz was arrested on Monday and transported to the Randolph County Jail where he was placed under a $1,000,000 secured bond.

Additional charges are pending.
