BURLINGTON, N.C. — By 2015, at least five new developments from apartments to restaurants and even a hotel will all be built within a one-mile radius of the Alamance Crossing Shopping Center in Burlington.

"You could very easily just walk and you're right there at everything you need," said Burlington Planning Director Amy Nelson.

Nelson says over the past six months, the area has been a hot spot for developers because it is near shops, Elon University and Interstate 40/85.

By December, four projects will break ground, including the 6-floor Drury Inn and Suites Hotel.

Construction has already started on the Retreat at the Park apartment complex, which will have close to 250 units.

By the end of the year, the new Smithfield's Chicken and Bar-B-Q will open its doors.
