CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man accused of bludgeoning his uncle to death with a brick might have been off medication prescribed for a mental illness, a relative told WSOC.

Police say Orlando Neal, 55, beat Charles Neal, 77, with a brick and doused him with gasoline Thursday morning.

Neal is charged with murder and malicious injury by use of explosive or incendiary device.

Rev. Lowery, another uncle, said his nephew Orlando Neal was taking medication for a mental illness for around 12 years. He said Orlando Neal called him several times in the middle of the night speaking “jibberish.”

Orlando Neal is scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon.
