GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- A pedestrian was killed when he was fatally struck by a vehicle in Guilford County early Wednesday morning.

Billy Wayne Booker, 48, of Greensboro was killed in the accident that occurred along Rankin Mill Road near McLeansville around 2:15 a.m., highway patrol troopers said.

Booker was walking in the roadway when a white Acura struck him from behind. The man hit the windshield of the car then fell off onto the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver told troopers she never saw the pedestrian because there are no lights in the area. Troopers said Booker appeared to be walking in the roadway, but off to the side.

Speeding, alcohol/drugs were not factors in the crash, officials say.

No charges are expected.
