CARY, N.C. — Police have charged a Cary photographer with 12 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, WTVD reports.

David Earl Maney II, 43, was booked into the Wake County Detention Center Monday afternoon.

The charges stem from material found on Maney’s computer at his apartment that was allegedly pornographic depictions of underage teens, police said.

Detectives said the investigation began when the mother of a 16-year-old girl came into the police department complaining about a Facebook conversation the teen allegedly had with Maney.

The 16-year-old said Maney asked her to allow him to take nude photos of her.

Police said the material found on Maney’s computer did not involve the teen.

Search warrants in the case show Maney runs his own company called DM2 Photography.

Maney has taken photos for Cary High Athletics in the past, but the Cary Police Department tells WTVD he is neither a Cary High nor Wake County Public School System employee.
