CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 3-year-old boy died Tuesday afternoon from injuries after a car wreck Monday in Charlotte that killed his mother and injured his sibling.

The wreck happened on East Independence Boulevard near Albemarle Road.

WSOC reported that the boy’s mother, Silje Grayston, died at the scene of the crash. Her other child, a 1-year-old, was also in the vehicle that wrecked. That child’s condition has not been released.

Investigators said the driver of the SUV, Caw Kam, suddenly went across four lanes on Independence Boulevard and hit the family’s car at the stop sign on Fugate Avenue.

Kam was arrested Monday and charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Detectives are seeking an additional arrest warrant charging Kam with another count of misdemeanor death by vehicle.
