BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina woman appeared in court after officers say she pointed a gun at a pregnant mother’s stomach outside a home, claiming she wanted to kill the victim and remove her unborn child.
WCSC reported that 44-year-old Julie Gordon Gookins was in bond court Friday evening where she faced charges of burglary, kidnapping, possession of a weapon and attempted murder.
A judge denied bond on all charges.
The victim recounted her ordeal at the hearing.
“She said if I said anything, she’d shoot me and my kids that were inside eating,” the victim told the judge Friday evening.”I feel like if she ever does get out, she will definitely come back and kill me because that’s what she said … I feel like she will come and attack me again.”
Investigators believe that Gookins wanted to kidnap and kill the victim, and remove the victim’s unborn child “to present the child as her own.”
The victim told the court she had arrived home and while she was unloading groceries, she was approached by Gookins who was armed with a gun.
It was reported that Gookins ordered the victim to the backyard, but at one point when she was distracted, a struggle ensued and the victim was able to knock the gun out of her hands.
Authorities say when Gookins continued to assault the victim, a neighbor saw the assault and intervened.
Investigators say deputies found Gookins’ vehicle and several items believed to be “instrumentalities” used for “kidnapping and attempted murder.”
