Kure Beach man sets world record for longest surf ride

KURE BEACH, NC — Kure Beach is now home to the newest surfing world record holder, according to WECT.

Ben Shaw started riding waves at 6:34 a.m. Saturday and kept riding throughout the night until just after 2 p.m. Sunday — a total of 29 consecutive hours on his board in the water.

The ride will officially be approved by the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest consecutive surfing session in history.

Shaw is a native of Kure Beach.
