One dead, one injured after shooting at Burlington hotel

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- One person is dead and another injured after a shooting early Sunday morning at a Quality Inn hotel in Burlington, according to police.

The victims were identified as Raphael Devante Currie and David Israel Williams, both 24 and of Burlington.

Williams died at Alamance Regional Medical Center and Currie was flown to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, where he remains, according to police.

Police said they were called to the hotel at 2444 Maple Avenue at around 2:36 a.m. in reference to gunshots being fired.

Investigators said a large number of people had gathered at the hotel to attend an unveiling of an album release. Police estimated that several hundred people were there.

Officials said the victims were found on the second floor of the hotel with gunshot wounds. A witness told police he heard an argument on the second floor just before the gunshots were fired.

Burlington Police, Burlington Fire and Alamance County EMS responded to the incident.
