Vacant Winston-Salem apartment unit damaged in fire

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Officials are investigating the cause of a morning fire at an apartment unit in Winston-Salem, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

Firefights were dispatched to 2931 New Walkertown Road at about 7:24 a.m. Upon arrival they saw light smoke coming from Unit K. There was a small fire in the bedroom of the vacant apartment.

They extinguished the fire with a hose line and ventilated the structure. The situation was under control in 10 minutes. Damage was estimated at $3,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
