WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — A beloved North Carolina high school cheerleader was killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday near Holly Springs.

WTVD-TV reported that 17-year-old Madison Pearce, of Holly Springs, was killed in the wreck.

Hundreds attended a prayer and remembrance service at Wake Christian Academy on Sunday, according to WRAL-TV. Pearce was a Wake Christian senior and also on the school’s cheerleading squad.

Authorities said the crash happened Saturday afternoon on Piney Grove Wilbon Road near Wade Nash Road.

A car driven by Pearce crossed the center line and hit a pick-up truck head-on, according to the State Highway Patrol.

The two people in the truck were taken to Wake Med with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to authorities.

Investigators said they do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
