Some University of North Carolina students are getting creative when it comes to raising money to pay for college tuition, The Daily Tar Heel reports.

The website GoFundMe allows users to share their personal story on the Internet to encourage the public to donate to their specific cause — in this case, thousands of dollars for education, from courses and class trips.

Students said that opening up and sharing personal stories can be difficult but added that people ask for help all the time for various reasons. And with GoFundMe, money can be raised from anywhere in the world.

So far, nearly $20 million has been raised in the Education, Schools & Learning category from more than 246,000 donors.
