WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A man who was found shot to death in his Winston-Salem home Tuesday afternoon has been identified.

Luther Gordon, 68, was found dead inside his home at 1413 Bretton St., by a visitor who regularly checked on him.

Police were called to the home around 4:19 p.m. after a report of "unknown trouble."

The victim was found with possibly multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Family of the victim say Gordon was very cautious about who he let inside his house. They believe the suspect is someone Gordon knew.

The door to the house was smashed in, but the victim's family say it was because the police accidentally locked themselves out while investigating.

This death makes the 10th homicide in Winston-Salem this year, compared to four homicides during the same time in 2013.
