Suspect in Eden Jewelry break-in in custody

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A man is in custody following a break-in at a Reidsville jewelry store Monday morning.

Tony Dean Smith Jr., of Eden, is charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering and injury to real property.

Around 2:50 a.m. on Monday, Smith allegedly used a stolen vehicle to back into the front doors of Eden Jewelry, located at 1550 Freeway Drive in Reidsville. Once inside, Smith stole an undetermined amount of jewelry.

Some of the items taken from the break-in have been recovered.

Charges were made after a joint investigation with Eden Police Department and Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Smith is facing other possible charges from those assisting agencies involved as well as the Madison Police Department.

Smith was arrested in Madison around 10 a.m. Tuesday and is in custody in the Rockingham County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond.
