DANVILLE, Va. — Officials said that six people were hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into an apartment in Danville, causing an explosion.

Danville fire authorities said it happened early Saturday morning at an apartment at 677 Arnett Blvd.

The vehicle struck the building and severed gas lines at the meters, resulting in a leak that filled the building with a high concentration of gas, officials said.

The explosion reportedly created a structure fire and compromised the 18-unit building by buckling walls and floors.

Six residents were taken to Danville Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Another 14 residents were displaced.

The Red Cross assisted displaced residents in finding accommodations, according to fire officials.
