BROOKLYN, Mich. – Tony Stewart will not race at Michigan International Speedway this weekend and Jeff Burton will fill in for him, according to Stewart-Haas Racing.

Stewart hit and killed another driver who was walking on a track during a dirt-track race in upstate New York.

Kevin Ward Jr., 20, died from injuries suffered in the incident, which occurred Saturday night at the Empire Super Sprints series event at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park.

“This driver change pertains only to Michigan,” according to a statement by Stewart-Haas Racing. “Stewart’s plans for upcoming Sprint Cup races have yet to be determined.”

Stewart also sat out last weekend’s race at Watkins Glen International, following Ward’s death.
