BURLINGTON, N.C. — A woman is in the hospital after being shot in Burlington late Thursday evening.

Police responded to an apartment complex on Peace Lane around 10:40 p.m. to find a 35-year-old woman with gunshot wounds to her back and arm.

The woman was transported to a local hospital then airlifted to UNC-Chapel Hill where officials say she is in stable condition.

Witnesses told police that about 15-20 minutes before the shooting, there was a disturbance in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The group dispersed and a short time later, a suspect began firing a gun from the parking lot towards the building, striking apartments B and D.

All were occupied, but the woman was the only one injured.

The suspect fled in a vehicle towards Maple Avenue.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at 336-229-3500 or Alamance County Crime Stoppers at 336-229-7100.
