Lemonade stands, car washes and selling fish dinners are ways some groups raise money.

Now, thanks to social media, fundraising has been given an upgrade through crowdfunding sites like gofundme.com.

But, as FOX8's Kerry Charles shows us, there are some things you and your family need to know before you click "donate."

Pierced Ministries and Rehab Services in High Point is a ministry focused on helping men change their lives, which involves Josephus Thompson taking Greensboro-area teens and young adults to costly competitions.

The cost to attend "Brave New Voices" in Philadelphia this summer was $5,000. Almost $900 of that was raised through the crowdfunding website "Fundrazr."

The website was a blessing to the group.

But State General Attorney Roy Cooper warns that some people are looking to take advantage of the fundraising sites.
