WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A nearly 10-hour standoff between Winston-Salem police and an armed man barricaded in a shed came to an end around 8 p.m.

The suspect was identified as Larry Jason Chambers, 37. The standoff ended after Chambers stabbed himself in the chest. Paramedics responded to the scene and Chambers was taken into custody via ambulance to be transported to a local hospital.

Chambers has outstanding warrants out of Yadkin and Wilkes counties.

During the standoff, Chambers became "highly agitated and attempts to negotiate failed," according to Winston-Salem Police Chief Barry Rountree.

The standoff took place at Ardsley Street and Lockland Avenue.

Police say they received a call around 10:20 a.m. about a man threatening suicide. They tracked the man through his phone and he was found barricaded inside a shed behind a home in the 1800 block of Ardsley Street.

It is not known what Chambers' connection is to the home or neighborhood.

During the standoff, Chambers fired three shots. No officers were injured.

Why can’t they (the police) just leave the guy alone? Should he put a bullet through his ears, so what..Just leave the guy alone and let it pass so long as he isn’t shooting at other people..

    • No Hope For Change

Yeah because suicidal people never decide to take others out with them. Besides sounds like he or someone he knows about the situation called the police. According to public opinion police are supposed to be miracle workers and fix the situation that likely took a lifetime of dysfunction to create.
