PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The three-year-old boy missing from Patrick County, Va., has been located in Pikeville, Ky., and is safe, according to Patrick County Sheriff Daniel Smith.

An Amber Alert was issued for Tommy Lee Able Engle at 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday. The child was said to be abducted by his father, 34-year-old Tommy Lee Travis Engle.

The boy’s father was taken into custody without incident at 12:50 p.m. by law enforcement officers in Pikeville.

Smith said that he was contacted by the elder Engle via cell phone shortly after midnight and that dialogue continued throughout the early morning hours until he was apprehended.

Smith said that Engle has family in Pikeville and that he is currently being held in the Pike County Jail awaiting extradition back to Patrick County. He is facing two felony assault charges against the child’s mother.
