NC man has close encounter with grizzly bear while hiking

WEST GLACIER, Montana — A North Carolina man hiking in Montana had a close encounter with a grizzly bear and it was captured in photos, according to WBTV.

A Durham man can be seen hiding from a bear on the side of a cliff at the Glacier National Park, in a photo taken by Philip Granrud.

Granrud said he took photo Monday night at on the Highline Trail in Glacier National Park in West Glacier, Montana.

He said the bear jumped onto a trail, causing several hikers to move out of the way. Granrud said the bear was not aggressive.

A man from Durham, North Carolina apparently wasn’t able to get away, so he took a different path, scaling down the cliff to separate himself from the bear.

“I would say the hiker did the right thing,” Granrud wrote online. “Clearly though there were no easy choices!”
