ELON, N.C. -- Organizations like The Princeton Review and Sierra Club say Elon University is leading the way when it comes to sustainability.

"It has been a process at the university. It's not a destination. It's a journey," says Elon University Sustainability Director Elaine Durr. "Sustainability is something numerous people have been involved with. It's offices, students, staff; it's a collective effort on campus."

Elon has car charging stations, solar panels for hot water heaters and 19 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED certified buildings. Durr is also excited that sustainability is taught in the classroom.

"Hopefully they will take that with them when they leave,” she said.
