7-year-old dies after being shot in Wilson

WILSON, N.C. — A 7-year-old child is dead after shots were fired at a home in Wilson Wednesday night.

Police responded to a residence around 9:51 p.m. in the 400 block of Parkview Street where they found a child had been shot.

The 7-year-old, whose name has not been released, died after being taken to Vidant Medical Center for treatment.

No other injuries were reported in the shooting.

Police did not say if they believe the home where the child was shot was the intended target of the shooters or if they have any suspects.

They discovered several shots had been fired at the residence. The right rear window of a car outside a home on Parkview Street was shot out during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
